SUBSTANCE ABUSE
These are all 45 minute workshops for small groups which are designed to fit within the standard high school and college class time frames. An end of the day program for substance abuse identification for teachers and administrators is included at no extra charge. The program lasts approximately 30-40 minutes and provides training to recognize abuse of the most common substances.

RELATIONSHIPS! RELATIONSHIPS! RELATIONSHIPS!
Relationships are a major source of joy and anguish for everyone. Learn how to do healthy relationships. Learn how to avoid pitfalls and how to not settle for “second best!” Also included will be some dynamics that may be affecting you of which you may not be aware. There will be some very interesting written work and some class room discussion. Share as little or as much as you wish. This is a fun and informative workshop, and has been well-received by past participants.

KIDS AND ALCOHOL: The PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
By a certain age, everyone is faced with the decision To Drink or Not to Drink. Most are not totally aware of the effects of alcohol on the body, which happen even when the person is new to drinking. Learn what is taking place inside—how alcohol affects your brain and central nervous system. The purpose of this workshop is to give you the facts so that you can make informed decisions about alcohol consumption.

KIDS AND DRUGS: THE EFFECTS OF DRUGS ON THE BRAIN AND CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
With Special Emphasis on Marijuana, Cocaine, and Heroin
Drugs are all around us and a great many of us know how to obtain them if we choose. Learn what drugs can do to the central nervous system. Learn about how drugs can change your brain chemistry, sometimes even with only one experience! The purpose of this workshop is to give you the facts, so that you are not confused with half-truths, and to empower you to keep yourself safe from sometimes permanent brain damage.

MEET JOHN
John started with alcohol at age 16 and soon progressed to cocaine, a habit which he maintained for several years until his exposure to crack. He entered a rehabilitation program and eventually became a successful race car driver but his addiction never left and his drug dependency became the driving force in his life. After two drug related felony convictions, the glamour of the winners circle was replaced by the stark reality of life in a state prison. John is now on parole and trying very hard to get his life back together. His message is intense. He became successful in a career that thousands of young people dream of entering. Then he lost if all because of drugs.
The 45 minute program in which he describes his drug use and dependency, the arrest, the sentencing in court, his prison and shock program experiences, and now his ongoing rehab, counseling, and parole is designed to fit into a regular class period. His story lasts about 30-35 minutes with the rest of the time allotted for questions.

RESPONDING TO THREATENING BEHAVIOR
This is included with the Sexual Assault Risk Reduction program at no extra cost. After the conclusion of the regular school day, a program for teachers and administrators is available at no extra cost. This half hour presentation addresses effective responses to threatening behavior. Aggressive body language relating to the distinct differences between intimidation and assaultive behavior is discussed.

SEXUAL ASSAULT RISK REDUCTION
This program, for female students in grades 7 and up, starts with identifying high risk environments then quickly progresses to indentifying the characteristics of persons more likely to present a threat. We discuss threatening behaviors, dominating and controlling personalities, and body language indicators. The class also covers the implications of invasion of personal space and indicators of dominance. I emphasize thinking and reasoning as primary defense. We also discuss planning the escape and the use of force in resisting the assault. The final phase of the program discusses legality of resistive force. We then conclude by having the students get a partner and learn and practice simple escapes
